Dealing With Dry Eyes

Healthy eyes rely on the natural lubrication from tears to maintain comfort. Those that suffer from dry eyes often have inadequate tear production, causing discomfort and sensitivity. At Marano Eye Care, we have several tips for reducing your dry eye occurrences, and can also prescribe treatments to remedy your dry eye problem for good!

Reduce Ceiling Fan Speed

If you constantly have your ceiling fan on full blast, it is probably contributing to the severity of your dry eyes. Reduce the speed of your ceiling fan, or discontinue use entirely. Constant air being blown into the eyes will even dry out the healthiest of eyes.

Blink More When Using the Computer

Did you know, that when using the computer we tend to rarely blink? If you sit in front of a computer, tablet, or phone all day, then you are probably not blinking as much as you should. Take some time to remind yourself to blink, or get away from your screen every 20 minutes or so to give your eyes a break.

Drink More Water

Mild dehydration can actually cause symptoms of dry eyes to get even worse. Make sure you are staying hydrated to ensure that dehydration isn’t the lone cause of your uncomfortably dry eyes.

Eat Foods High in Omega 3 and Vitamin A

If your body is running low on Omega 3 Fatty Acids, your eyes will be the first to show it. In fact, studies have shown that the more Omega 3 and Vitamin A in one’s diet, the lower the risk they have for developing dry eyes.
